International Volunteer Day: China needs more skilled volunteers
01:03

Many young Chinese are choosing to donate their time and services abroad. AIESEC is the world's largest student organization. It places over 20,000 volunteers and interns internationally every year. Its name is a French acronym that stands for International Association of Students in Economic and Commercial Sciences, but students of all backgrounds are now welcome. Since 2010, China has topped the list of source countries. The most popular destination is Egypt, followed by Sri Lanka, Russia, Indonesia, and India. The most common task is teaching English. But domestically, there's also an urgent demand for skilled professionals. A report by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences shows China is short of professional and skilled volunteers, in sectors such as healthcare and legal services, while it also needs effective volunteer training, insurance, and stimulus schemes.
