Under the theme "Media vs. Technology," the third CGTN Global Media Summit and CCTV+ Video Media Forum concluded in Beijing on Wednesday.

CGTN spoke to attendees from the media industry about their thoughts on the theme of the summit, and how they view media in the new era.

Many of the guests believed that the media industry faces opportunities and challenges as technology develops.

"The spread of fast internet means news can go anywhere quickly, so we can reach bigger audiences faster than ever," said John Pullman, global editor of Reuters Video and Pictures.

"(Technology) is a double-edged sword," Harvey Dzodin, a senior research fellow at the Center for China and Globalization and former director and vice president of ABC Television, told CGTN.

"It helps us get a lot of information, but also unfortunately divided us into tribes," said Dzodin, adding that the biggest challenge of our era is to distinguish truth from fake news.

"We are going to need more qualified people to cope with the rising level of technology that is confronting media," said Vipp Jaswal, head of International Affairs at Fox News Channel.

Guests also shared their views on what to expect from the next generation of media.

"I think that the camera has become the way that young people communicate with the world and with their friends," said Sumaiya Omar, co-founder of Hashtag Our Stories.

"It's high time for the co-living of traditional media and new media," Freddie Wen, influencer at EyeOpener, told CGTN. "Individual creators would try to find more creative ways, and in the meantime, traditional media might find ways to cooperate with individual creators."

Jaswal said that new generations of media emerge every two to three years.

"Two to three years ago we were on 3G and 4G, now we are suddenly onto 5G and AI," he said. "Maybe in a few years we will be on 6G."

"The next generation of media should have a better ability to interact with users," Yu Qi, general manager of the media relationship department at Weibo, told CGTN. "More cross-border and viral content should be produced by content creators."
