Shanghai Shenhua overcame a 1-0 first leg deficit to beat Shandong Luneng 3-0 in the second leg and capture the Chinese Football Association (CFA) Cup on Friday night.

Shenhua scored all their goals in the second half at Hongkou Football Stadium in Shanghai to make the finals result 3-1 in aggregate.

Kim Shinwok, the 1.98m-tall South Korean forward, sent the ball into the net to level the tie in the 59th minute. Former Roma player El Shaarawy and Qian Jiegei of China added another two in the 80th to 82nd minutes.

It is the first time in the last six years that the home team of the Cup finals' second leg has held the trophy. It's also Shenhua's third triumph adding to their titles in 1998 and 2017.

The winners, who only finished in 13th place in the Chinese Super League (CSL) in the just finished season, should now prepare well for next season's AFC Champions League along with Guangzhou Evergrande and Beijing Guoan. Another Shanghai team, SIPG, who were third in the CSL, have to attend the playoffs to secure a place.
