Junius Ho, a member of the Legislative Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), has been awarded an honorary doctorate by the China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL).

The awarding ceremony, held Friday afternoon at the CUPL, was attended by the university's president Ma Huaide, other members of the management as well as teachers' representatives.

According to public records, Ho graduated from Britain's Anglia Ruskin University in 1984, known then as the Chelmer Institute of Higher Education, with a bachelor of laws degree. After that, he returned to Hong Kong where he has worked in the legal profession, serving for a time as president of the city's law society.

Following the conferment of the award on Friday, Ho said it is not only a recognition of his work in the legal profession for the past over 30 years, but also a show of support for him as well as for all "real" Hong Kong residents who love the city as well as the Chinese mainland.

On October 28, the Anglia Ruskin University stripped Ho of the honorary doctorate that he was awarded in 2011, saying his conduct had caused increasing concern since he was honored.

But the university did not specify what exact incidents or complaints triggered the revocation.
