Special measures are being taken to ensure a comfortable and warm winter for resident animals of a local zoo, as temperatures in northeast China have dropped to freezing minus 20 degrees Celsius recently.

Four pandas from southwest China's Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding are spending their third winter in the frigid north, but heaters and humidifiers installed in their enclosures are keeping them warm. For hippos, which like to stay in water, the pond is kept heated 24 hours a day. Meanwhile, some primates from tropical areas in South America and Africa are offered adequate heating supply and high-calorie food.
