Philanthropy is a gift of giving, generosity and kindness. But unfortunately, many aren't entirely sure where their well-intended donations end up. A Chinese crowdfunding platform for medical treatment has banned its offline promoters from advertising its service. It comes after an undercover report exposed lax vetting standards in a company called Shuidichou. Shuidichou has been criticized for encouraging users to break its own rules when setting fundraising targets. So can these crowdfunding platforms be called charity organizations? And why does the public show a distinct lack of trust in them?
