The work of building ten national park system pilot areas in China is progressing smoothly. These areas involve 12 provinces, with a total area of more than 220,000 square kilometers, accounting for about 2.3 percent of the country's land area. Since the work began in 2015, each pilot area is putting ecological protection first. They integrate nature reserves in the area into the scope of national parks to implement unified management, overall protection, and system restoration. 

According to the Central Government, China will successfully establish a batch of national parks and relevant systems by 2020.
