Wu and gold medalist Liu had a minor collision when Wu attempted to overtake Liu in the final lap, resulting in slight injuries for Wu and a gap of about six seconds between the two. Liu came out on top in 41.920.

"I felt Wu was trying to pass me from outside on the last lap, so I raised my arm and wanted to show I didn't foul," Liu said after his win. "I had never seen him fall so badly. I hope he will recover soon."

The Netherlands won the mixed 2,000m relay in 2:40.196, with Russia and Japan winning silver and bronze. The other two finalists, Canada and the United States, were disqualified after penalties.
