In the 2019 World Taekwondo Grand Prix Final, China secured four tickets to the Tokyo Olympics, with Wu Jingyu winning silver in women's under-49kg final, Zhao Shuai claiming a bronze in men's 68kg, Olympic champion Zheng Shuyin in the women's over-67 kilograms final, and Zhang Mengyu in the women's under-67kg category.

The 32-year-old Wu Jingyu became the first female athlete in the sport to qualify for the Olympic Games four times in a row.

Wu first won gold for China in this sport at Asian Games when she claimed the title in the women's 47kg final at the 2006 Doha Asian Games. She then went on to pocket two golds at the 2008 Beijing Olympics (47kg) and 2012 London Olympics (49kg).

In July 2017, Wu gave birth to her daughter and resumed training half a year later. She won two world titles at Fujairah Open 2019 and the 2019 WTF President's Cup. Wu sprained her ankle on March 8 this year and picked up her training sessions just three days before the 2019 German Open. She has been training incredibly hard, attempting to take on another Olympics challenge.

After the semi-final of the 2019 World Taekwondo Grand Prix, it was confirmed that Wu won her ticket to Tokyo. She burst into tears as her Olympic dream was kept alive.

In the finals, she lost to Serbia's Tijana Bogdanovic, but the ticket was enough for her.

In other categories, China's Zheng Shuyin claimed her third straight win of this year's Grand Prix games when she defeated London Olympics Champion, Serbia's Milicia Mandic.

China's 21-year-old Luo Zongshi clinched the under-57kg gold with a victory against Hatice Kubra Ilgun from Turkey, bagging her first Grand Prix title.

Another Chinese athlete Gao Pan won bronze in the women's over-67kg category.
