In an unusual display of agility, pandas at the Chengdu Research Base of Panda Breeding in southwest China's Sichuan Province dropped their bamboos and climbed up a tree as soon as they felt the tremors of a magnitude-4.6 earthquake that hit Mianyang City on December 9. Tremors were felt in many places across the province. The earthquake's epicenter was monitored at a depth of 10 kilometers. No reports of casualties or structural damage were received.
