"Have you ever heard of a protester being killed by excessive force? What we saw was that the life of many innocent people was threatened by violent acts of radical rioters," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said at a regular press conference on Wednesday.

She questioned reporters who asked for comments on some experts' accusations on HK police's excessive use of force. "Do you see any police force around the world, such as in France and the United States, be as restrained as Hong Kong police?"

The spokesperson criticized the allegation as a "huge lie".

On the contrary, Hua added, many professional Hong Kong police were hurt by violent acts of those radical rioters.

"As the last line of defence for the rule of law in HK, we should praise the high restraint and professionalism of the HK police, and their sacrifice and dedication should be respected by all," the spokesperson stressed.
