One person was killed, and at least 25 people were injured in an explosion Friday at a residential building in the German city of Blankenburg, according to police.

The explosion struck at around 9:00 a.m. (0800 GMT) at a five-story building with 60 apartments. Residents have been evacuated.

Police said they had found gas canisters and old war ammunition in the building.
