The CBA, China's top professional basketball league, on Friday announced another reform to the All-Star Weekend on Weibo, China's equivalent to Twitter. A new session was added to the event: two retired star players will attend a 3-pointer contest.
The CBA also asked fans to wrote down the names of the players they want to see in their comments with the deadline of December 17.
Since the competition is about 3-pointers, over half of the excited fans wrote down the same pair of names: Wang Shipeng and Zhu Fangyu.
Having been nicknamed "Wang Seven" and "Zhu Eight", Wang and Zhu are two of the best shooters in Chinese basketball history. Both played for the Guangdong Southern Tigers as teammates when they were players, so if they can compete with the All-Star event, it will definitely be interesting to watch.
Besides Wang and Zhu, there are other big names in the comments: Hu Weidong, Liu Yudong, Sun Jun, Gong Xiaolin, and Wang Zhizhi – all members of the "Golden Generation" of Chinese basketball.

Li Nan, former head coach of China's men's national basketball team, also had his name mentioned. Though he was indeed a top shooter when he was still on the court, the disappointing performance of the national team under his coaching ruined Li's reputation.
As a traditional All-Star session, the 3-pointer contest has been losing its popularity in recent years, partly because of a lack of quality shooters in the league. The same reason was also behind China's underperformance at the FIBA Basketball World Cup in September.
Earlier, the CBA already presented a one-on-one session for the All-Star Weekend. Four players (two in the backcourt and two in the frontcourt) will be selected through fans' votes to put on an isolation contest to add more excitement to the event.
The CBA All-Star Weekend will take place in Guangzhou, the capital city of south China's Guangdong Province, between January 11 and 12 in 2020.
