China's first deep-water exploration well in Lingshui 17-2 gas field started operations on Friday. The country's first self-supported deep-water gas field, Lingshui 17-2, contains over 100 billion cubic meters of natural gas, according to officials.

Once fully operational, the gas field will meet the demand of a quarter of residents in the Greater Bay Area.
