A Sudanese court has convicted former President Omar al-Bashir on charges of corruption and illicit possession of foreign currency. He has been sentenced to two years of detention in a reform facility. The former president is wanted by the International Criminal Court on charges of war crimes and genocide linked to the Darfur conflict. Several judicial cases have also been launched against him in Sudan. In May, al-Bashir was charged with incitement and involvement in the killing of protesters. This week he was summoned for questioning over his role in the 1989 military coup that brought him to power.
