Beijing Royal Fighters inflicted a rare 126-111 defeat on Guangdong Southeast Tigers at home, snapping the reigning champions' 12-match winning streak in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) in Beijing on Sunday.

Beijing's foreign trio Kyle Fogg, Jason Thompson, and Sani Sakakini combined 75 points. Wang Zirui limped off for a while in the second quarter, adding 16.

The defense also played a big role in Beijing's surprising victory. The defending champions had averaged 120.4 points before Sunday.

"We played hard. We played smart. We played together," said Beijing's head coach Stephon Marbury.

The hosts heated up quick into the match, as Fogg's nine points followed by Wang's three-pointer put them 17-9 ahead early on.

Sakakini shone in both ends, scoring 10 points and protecting the rim quite well. Despite Guangdong substitutes' comeback, Beijing managed a 36-30 lead as the first quarter expired.

Beijing continued the momentum into the second period for a 50-40 lead after Xu Mengjun's layup with 8:26 remaining.

A 9-0 spurt put Guangdong back into contention, but Beijing soon regained charge, and Sun Yue connected on a three-pointer to earn them a 68-61 halftime advantage.

The league leaders tightened defense after the break, forcing Fogg into consecutive turnovers. They cut the lead to 75-74 with Marshon Brooks' fast-break layup with 6:36 on the clock of the third quarter.

Fogg, Thompson, and Sakakini combined 25 of Beijing's 32 points in the quarter, and Fogg's buzzer-beating shot behind the arc set up an 18-point cushion heading into the final frame.

Guangdong saw glimpse of a comeback with seven points but was shortly answered by Xu's jumper and Thompson's hook shot.

Unable to mount another challenge, Guangdong sent star player Yi Jianlian, who only scored nine points, back to bench with three minutes left.

Beijing has won three matches in a row. Fogg was the most lethal weapon, shooting 13 of 24 from the field to contribute a game-high 38 points, along with six rebounds and eight assists. Thompson and Sakakini both registered a double-double.

Sun, who finished nine points for Beijing, commented, "It's an important win, as our opponents are quite strong. It has also boosted our confidence and improved recognition of ourselves."

Guangdong also witnessed four players scoring double-figures. Sonny Weems posted 28 points on 10-of-15 shooting. Hu Mingxuan and Brooks had 18 and 16 respectively.

It was Guangdong's second defeat of the campaign. Their last and only loss before Sunday had been back to that against Jilin Northeast Tigers on November 10.
