Hong Kong experiences the most daunting year since its return to China 22 years ago, said Chinese President Xi Jinping while describing the situation in the city during a meeting with Carrie Lam, the HKSAR chief executive, in Beijing. Lam is in the Chinese capital on a three-day visit. In separate meetings on Monday, both President Xi and Premier Li Keqiang pledged support to the HKSAR government.
