A-Ma Temple, the oldest of its kind in Macao, was built to honor the Chinese sea-goddess Mazu, who is said to bless and safeguard the fishermen in Macao. Even though the temple has been here for over 500 years, pretty much unchanged and well preserved, its surroundings have of course changed dramatically, especially after 1999 when Macao returned to China, not only did the development in Macao speed up, but the growth on the other side of the river, in Zhuhai also accelerated.
