German Chancellor Angela Merkel said she had not been told about Chinese authorities making any threats if Huawei were to be excluded from the country's 5G rollout. Merkel reiterated that she was against singling out any firm. However, she added she was in favor of doing whatever necessary to ensure security. Still under pressure from U.S. trade restrictions, Huawei plans to open a components plant in Europe. The telecom giant insists it is not working in league with Chinese intelligence agencies.
