Chinese President Xi Jinping praised the work of Chui Sai On, the outgoing chief executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR), after he arrived in the SAR on Wednesday afternoon.
In a meeting with Chui Sai On, President Xi said the central government fully acknowledged the outgoing chief executive's work over the past 10 years, which saw achievements in multiple fields, including improvement in people's livelihood, economic development and cooperation and dialogue with the Chinese mainland.
President Xi expressed hope that Chui will continue to support the next SAR government and chief executive in pursuing law-based governance and contribute to the implementation of "One Country, Two Systems."
The Chinese president arrived in Macao to attend a gathering marking the 20th anniversary of Macao's return to the motherland and the inauguration of the Macao SAR's fifth-term government. He will also inspect the Macao SAR.

In return, Chui thanked President Xi and the central government for support and promised to keep contributing to Macao and the motherland.
With great support from the central government, the SAR government and people from all social sectors have made positive contributions to the city's prosperity and stability, and appropriately diversified its economy with the policy support from the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Chui said.
Echoing Xi's stance, Chui emphasized his willingness to continue supporting the next SAR government and chief executive, and making due contributions to the country's development.
Chui, who became Macao's chief executive in 2009, will be succeeded by Ho Iat Seng on December 20.
