Every winter around late October, tens of thousands of black-headed gulls fly from Siberia to Kunming, the capital city of southwestern China's Yunnan Province.

Thanks to warm weather all year around, Kunming is dubbed as China's "Spring City." During their stay here, the lively creatures gather mainly around the city's Dian Lake, the largest fresh water lake on the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau.

Locals consider the gulls integral part of the city. Every day, a large number of citizens and tourists interact with the birds by feeding them and taking pictures with them. The harmonious scene is reflective of improvements in the city's living environment.

The local government also takes various measures to ensure the gulls stay safe and sound in the city.

The birds usually leave the city in March and fly to Mongolia and Siberia to breed.
