More than 600,000 migratory birds of 53 species, among them white cranes, gray cranes and swans, have arrived at the Poyang Lake, China's largest freshwater lake, for winter.
However, due to lesser rainfall and water from upstream in Jiangxi, coupled with a prolonged drought, water levels of the Poyang Lake have dropped. This affects the growth of wetland plants and habitat of migratory birds.
The Poyang Lake National Wetland Park Administration has set aside 25,000 kilograms of corn to feed migratory birds arriving for winter.
