China is not interested in competing with the United States for hegemony and what the Chinese government wants and does is to make the Chinese people live a better life, said Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Le Yucheng.
He made the remarks when meeting Stephen Biegun, incoming U.S. deputy secretary of state and special representative for Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) affairs in Beijing on Friday.
Le pointed out that the real reason why China-U.S. relations have been experiencing serious difficulties is that some people in the U.S. have a big misunderstanding of China.
China is willing to work with the U.S. to realize no confrontation, mutual respect and win-win cooperation, as well as firmly safeguarding national sovereignty, security and development interests, the vice foreign minister said.
China hopes the two sides can meet each other halfway and advance the Sino-U.S. relations with coordination, cooperation, and stability in accordance with the important consensus reached by the heads of state of the two countries, he added.
The vice foreign minister also clarified China's principled stance on some of the wrong China-related arguments in the United States.
The two sides also exchanged views on the Korean Peninsula issue.
