An exhibition featuring China's 24 solar terms opened at the China Agricultural Museum in Beijing Thursday.

The five-day event aims to disseminate the culture of the solar terms, especially among the younger generation, through innovative and interactive activities via the forms of presentations, games and lectures.

At an annual meeting on promoting the solar terms on Thursday afternoon, experts called for more efforts from the whole society to protect and pass on this cultural legacy with a history of thousands of years.

The solar terms are the seasonal division points on lunar calendar, extolling Chinese wisdom of synoptic observation and prediction in ancient times.

In the past, Chinese used the system to schedule their agricultural activities or alter their diet at various times of the year.

Today, lots of traditions and customs regarding the 24 solar terms, such as eating special foods, are still popular in the country.

In 2016, China's 24 solar terms were inscribed on UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The exhibition will run through December 23.
