The development model of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) should aim to guarantee and provide better life for its residents, said Chinese President Xi Jinping at the ceremony marking the 20th anniversary of Macao's return to the motherland and inauguration of the fifth-term government of the Macao SAR on Friday.

To accelerate the city's development and meet its residents' demands, the SAR should enhance public infrastructure construction including transportation, energy, environment, information and city safety to improve people's living environment and quality of life, Xi said.

Xi stressed that more efforts should be made to solve issues including housing, healthcare and pension, helping the vulnerable group to overcome difficulties and enjoy a better life.

To let the youth and teenagers in Macao enjoy better growth, a high standard education system should be established to improve education quality, Xi said.

To maintain a harmonious and stable society in Macao, it's important to uphold the core values of loving both the country and Macao and build a social consensus of building Macao together. The SAR should enhance the development of associations to better serve its government and its people, said Xi.
