The development model of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) should aim to guarantee and provide better life for its residents, said Chinese President Xi Jinping at the ceremony marking the 20th anniversary of Macao's return to the motherland and inauguration of the fifth-term government of the Macao SAR on Friday.

To accelerate the city's development and meet its residents' demands, the SAR should enhance public infrastructure construction including transportation, energy, environment, information and city safety to improve people's living environment and quality of life, Xi said. The Chinese president stressed that more efforts should be made to solve issues including housing, healthcare and pension, helping those vulnerable to overcome difficulties and enjoy a better life.
