The central rural work conference was held in Beijing from Friday to Saturday, mapping out plans for China's rural and agricultural work in 2020.

A speech by President Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, was studied at the conference.

President Xi recently issued important instructions on work related to agriculture, rural areas and rural people at a meeting of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.

In his speech, Xi stressed the importance of work related to agriculture, rural areas and rural people in 2020, calling for resolute efforts to win the battle against poverty.

The quality of China's anti-poverty campaign and "Xiaokang," or a moderately well-off society, depends largely on the performance of the work related to agriculture, rural areas and rural people next year, Xi said.

He urged the pooling of resources and implementation of targeted measures to promote the development of agriculture, rural areas and rural people.

He also stressed the responsibilities of related departments and local governments to sustain rural people's enthusiasm for grain production, strengthen the building of Party organizations in rural areas, and improve their ability to serve the people.
