Everton of Premier League on Saturday announced its appointment of Carlo Ancelotti as the club's new manager. Ancelotti, who starts work on Sunday, has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract that will see the 60-year-old Italian lead "The Toffees" until the 2023-24 season.

"This is a great club with a rich history and a very passionate fan base. There is a clear vision from the Owner and the Board to deliver success and trophies. That is something that appeals to me as a manager, and I am thrilled at the prospect of being able to work with everybody at the Club to help make that vision a reality," said Ancelotti in a statement.

As "one of the most successful managers in world football" in Everton's words, Ancelotti became a manager in 1995 and has won 20 titles since then. Having coached six heavyweights – Juventus, AC Milan, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich – of the five major European leagues, Ancelotti has four league titles (Serie A, Premier League, Ligue 1 and Bundesliga) plus three UEFA Champions League trophies under his name.

Ten days ago, he was sacked by Serie A's Napoli.

"He is the perfect appointment for us. He embraces our vision for the Club, and we are sure that his enthusiasm to take the helm at Goodison together with his tactical abilities and well-renowned man-management will make him successful in this role. This was a clear and exciting decision for the Board to make. It was a unanimous choice, and one we were all fully united behind throughout. Carlo has proven time and again, he knows how to build a trophy-winning side, and we share the excitement of our fans at the prospect of him leading our team in the years ahead. We're all greatly looking forward to working with him," said Marcel Brands, Everton's director of football of Ancelotti.

Ancelotti will be attending Everton's home game against Arsenal at Goodison on Saturday as a spectator before taking over on Sunday. The Toffees currently rank No. 16 with 5-3-9, only three points above the relegation area.
