A total of 15 world top wingsuit flyers, two females included, from 11 countries are participating in the 2019 "Wings for Love" Wingsuit Flying World Cup trials from Friday to Sunday in Yunnan's Jinggu Dai and Yi Autonomous County.

Australian Scott Paterson took the lead on the opening day of the event.

Paterson completed his flight despite high winds and made an accurate landing, missing the target by only 0.16 meters. Yang Sheng from China and Vincent Cotte from France finished second and third respectively.

The flyers jump from a helicopter at an altitude of 1,000 meters and land as close as possible to a target on the ground after passing through a 20-meter-wide gap between two hot air balloons at the height of 200 meters.

This weekend will see the second and third round. The final standings will be decided by the sum of scores from all three.

Set up in 2014, "Wings for Love" World Cup is the biggest international wingsuit flying competition of its kind.

The first two annuals were held in Dashanbao, Zhaotong, Yunnan Province, China, in 2015 and 2016. From 2017, the event has been relocated to Jinggu, also in Yunnan Province of China, where Team France nabbed the top spot both times.

It is a tournament tradition to donate prize money to impoverished local children.
