Video released Friday by the Sichuan Wolong National Nature Reserve Administration shows two young cubs following their mother to a tree, with the older bear appearing to be on the lookout for something. Later, the cubs stand up to reach the mother bear for feeding, with the mother then thoughtfully sitting on ground to embrace them with her arms.

"We can tell from the videos that the mother bear and her two cubs are all very healthy. As for the black bear's behavior of sniffing the tree trunk, it is possible that some other wild animal has left a scent that aroused the mother bear's interest to sniff around the tree," said Shi Xiaogang, head of the Mujiangping Protection Station of the nature reserve.

The Asian black bear is the most widely seen bear species in China, and demonstrates great adaptability.

Female bears usually give birth between two to four cubs in winter, with the two cubs seen in the footage likely to have been born last winter. They will now be getting familiar with the natural environment and learning key survival skills before they live on their own without their mother's help.

"In the future, we will enhance patrols and monitoring to protect them. At the same time, we will install infrared cameras at some key areas where they were frequently seen, so as to keep a detailed record of their ecology practices and analyze their population," said Duan Zhaogang, party secretary of the Sichuan Wolong National Nature Reserve Administration.
