This episode of "Finding Beautiful Countryside in China" traces the building of a national "Beautiful Leisure Village" in the city of Meizhou, south China's Guangdong Province.

Though not as popular as the capital city of Guangzhou, Meizhou boasts several titles: a national historical and cultural city, national excellent tourism city and one of the most popular destinations for road trips in Guangdong. Apart from that, it's called the "capital of Hakka," for it is home to millions of Hakka people whose ancestors were believed to have moved from central China to the south centuries ago.

Before the restoration and renovation project, Meishe Village was not known to the public. By making use of its natural resources, and at the same time, maintaining the originality of the ancient village, Meishe Village has undergone a tremendous transformation.

With an increasing number of visitors looking for tranquility, rural tourism has gradually taken off, an example of agritourism. The vast terraced fields, traditional dwellings, winding streets and excellent ecological environment showcase the peaceful and healthy lifestyle of the locals. Years on, it's now better known as the "Longevity Village."

When you visit in autumn, you might also be able to join the Harvest Festival and immerse yourself in the festive and cheerful mood.
