More than 80 houses were destroyed by a forest fire that engulfed the Chilean port city on Christmas Eve. The fire started in the hills surrounding the city but quickly spread to residential parts of Valparaíso, forcing residents to leave their homes.

Some residents evacuated the area, and others tried to protect their homes from the blaze. Water and power supply were cut in the area as a precautionary measure.
