Heartwarming images have captured the moment when a baby monkey, separated from its mother, clung onto conservation staff after being rescued earlier this month in Limpang village, Indonesia.

According to International Animal Rescue (IAR), a local welfare group, the baby ape was first spotted by a villager who later reported to the authorities. Named "Aben" by his rescuers, the monkey is less than a year old.

The baby monkey was taken off to quarantine and will undergo further health checks in the following weeks, media reported.

Orangutans are endangered and have witnessed a big population decline in their Bornean and Sumatran species. Meanwhile, there are just 800 Tapanuli orangutans in existence, according to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).
