China's top legislature has voted to adopt a law to promote basic healthcare that will also protect the rights of medical workers. It is the country's first comprehensive law in the field, and will be effective from June 1, 2020. It promises tougher action against any organization or individual who threatens or harms medical staff. This comes after a relative of a patient in Beijing recently killed a female doctor.
