If you are a big fan of Harry Potter, you must have heard about the Elder Wand – one of the three objects that constitute the Deathly Hallows and the most powerful wand that ever existed. As its name suggests, the wand is made of Elder, a popular tree among landscapers. The tree is easy to cultivate and produces beautiful flowers and versatile berries. For thousands of years, Elder's berries and flowers have been made into beverages, jams and so on. Elder flowers are also used to treat sunburn and eczema.

The tree grows throughout the world including North America, Asia and Europe. There are several species of Elder trees. For instance, European Elder, which is also called "Black Elder," produces black berries that are poisonous in their raw state. Blue Elder, which produces blue berries, is another popular species.
