The host of the 2021 Summer Universiade Chengdu in southwest China's Sichuan Province unveiled the slogan, emblem and mascot for the world's biggest inter-university sporting spectacle at the Games Village on Monday.

The event will see nearly 10,000 student-athletes from around 170 different countries and regions compete for top honors under the banner of "Chengdu Makes Dreams Come True" in 2021.

The 2021 Universiade Games emblem is a golden key that was designed to reflect the spirit of an ancient Chinese gold decoration that was excavated in 2001.

The event's mascot is a panda holding a torch with a flame in the shape of the number 31 to represent the 31st edition of the games which will open on August 8, 2021.

The mascot for the competition was designed to highlight the host city's unique cultural elements and one of its icons, the giant panda. The capital of the southwest China province is known for its panda-breeding center, and its surrounding woods are the world's only panda habitat.

Chengdu will be the third city on the Chinese mainland to host the Universiade Summer Games after Beijing and Shenzhen. The Summer Universiade will stage 18 competitions with 15 compulsory sports, including track and field, diving, basketball, volleyball, swimming and three selective sports: martial arts, boat racing and shooting. The city's Donganhu Sports Center will be the main venue for the event, as both the opening and closing ceremonies will take place there.
