A total of 2,217 reform schemes have been unveiled since the third plenary session of the 18th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in November 2013, including 285 rolled out this year, Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Tuesday.
President Xi, also general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks when addressing a New Year gathering held by the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), China's top political advisory body.
2019 marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC), Xi noted, adding that major breakthroughs have been made in various aspects over the year.

This year, 46 key reform tasks and 61 other reform tasks assigned by the central committee for deepening overall reform were largely completed; meanwhile, departments of the CPC Central Committee and the state completed 178 reform tasks, according to Xi.
In 2020, China is set to complete the building of a moderately prosperous society in all respects while striving to meet the targets outlined in the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-2020), he stressed.
The president urged efforts to stabilize growth, promote reforms, restructure the economy, improve people's well-being, prevent risks, and ensure social stability. He also called for winning the battle against poverty with high-quality outcomes.

Xi vowed to continue to implement the "One Country, Two Systems" principle in the Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions and maintain long-term prosperity and stability there.
"We must uphold the one-China principle and promote peaceful development of relations across the Taiwan Strait on the basis of the 1992 Consensus," he noted.
The upcoming year will be crucial for accomplishing China's first "centenary goal," Xi said.
China has set two "centenary goals". The first is to "build a moderately prosperous society in all respects" to celebrate the CPC's centenary in 2021. The second is to "build a modern socialist country that is prosperous, strong, democratic, culturally advanced and harmonious" by the middle of the century to celebrate the PRC's centenary.
Senior CPC and state officials Li Keqiang, Li Zhanshu, Wang Yang, Wang Huning, Zhao Leji, Han Zheng and Wang Qishan attended the gathering along with senior members of non-communist parties, leaders of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, representatives of non-party affiliation personages, leading officials of the central departments, members of different ethnic groups, and people from all walks of life.
