Floods hit parts of Indonesian capital on New Year's Day, killing nine

Floods have submerged parts of the Indonesian capital on the first day of New Year after torrential rainfall overnight. The government says at least nine people have died, while 19,000 people have been forced to evacuate. Officials report water levels as high as two meters. Floods are a regular threat to residents in Jakarta during the country's rainy seasons.
