In Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), authorities were forced to end a New Year's Day rally after violence broke out. Rioters hurled petrol bombs in several parts of the city and vandalized a bank in Wan Chai district, prompting police to deploy tear gas and make arrests.
