Thousands of people participated in a New Year event in a riverside area of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal in east China, the world's longest artificial river. 

Sports enthusiasts marked the start of 2020 with a trekking tournament and a marathon. The Meizhou Island in Putian city attracted over 5,000 runners from all ages to kick off another year.

Participants enjoyed the picturesque island and its unique Mazu Culture while racing for the prizes.
