Artificial intelligence helps preserve dying language

Language is an important carrier of human culture. According to UNESCO, half of the over 6,000 plus languages spoken today will disappear by the end of this century if not preserved. According to the Chinese Education Ministry's Language Commission, among the more than 130 languages spoken in China, 68 are used by less than 10,000 people, and 25 by less than 1,000. A Chinese artificial intelligence company with leading speech technologies is partnering with activists from all over the country to build corpora for 23 dialects to help preserve dying languages.
