A bluefin tuna fetched 193.2 million yen (1.8 million U.S. dollars) on Sunday at the New Year's auction at a Tokyo fish market in Japan.

The price paid for the 276-kilogram fish is the second-highest on record, reported Kyodo News. The tuna was caught off Oma in northern Japan.

The successful bidder was Kiyomura Corp., operator of a sushi restaurant chain in Japan. It was the second time that the company had won the bid. At last year's auction, it paid 333.6 million yen (3.1 million U.S. dollars) for a 278-kilogram bluefin tuna.
