More than 1,000 took to the streets in Hong Kong on January 5, this time to protest the presence of speculative shoppers and traders from the mainland. The demonstration, organized by opposition councilors and local residents, was held in the border town of Sheung Shui. They expressed anger at those who make a profit by reselling products purchased in Hong Kong at a higher price in the Chinese mainland. A separate group of protesters threw petrol bombs at a police station, prompting police to fire tear gas.
