People, animals and property on South Australia's Kangaroo Island are under immediate threat from raging bushfires with only two towns listed as places of safety. Local residents have been advised to leave and head to the towns of Kingscote or Peneshaw on the east coast. However, John and Carol Stanton fled the fire and returned to find the charred remains of both the home they built and their horticultural business.
