Infrared cameras captured footage of a brown bear scratching against a rock in a mountainous area in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, northwest China.

The brown bear species hasn't been seen in the region for the last two decades.

"Bears have basically vanished from here for about 20 years, based on our early researches including interviews with local herders," said Xing Rui, researcher of Wild Xinjiang.

As the local ecological environment has greatly improved, more wild animals including wolves, wild boars and alpine ibex have been seen enjoying life in the region.
