Firefighters freed a little egret entangled in wires hanging in the air on January 5 in Shangluo City, northwest China's Shaanxi Province.
Passersby spotted the white bird hanging on a wire and struggling near the Danjiang Wetland. Residents fetched a fishing rod and tried to get the bird down but the electric wire was too high to reach. So the residents called local firefighters for help.
The staff of Shangzhou District Wildlife Protection Station identified the bird to be a grown-up little egret. The little egret is on the red list of endangered species designated by the Chinese government. Fortunately it was not harmed and was then released back to the wild.
