Luo Huining, the new director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), met with Tung Chee-hwa, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, on Thursday, the Liaison Office said.

Luo extended New Year's greetings to Tung, former Hong Kong chief executive, showing respect for his contributions to promoting the development of the HKSAR and the nation.

As the first chief executive of the HKSAR, Tung made historic contributions to implementing the "One Country, Two Systems" principle and the Basic Law, and promoting the practice of the "One Country, Two Systems" principle in Hong Kong, Luo said.

Tung congratulated Luo, who was appointed the new director of the Liaison Office last week and discussed Hong Kong-related issues to better develop the region.

Later on Friday, Luo also met with Leung Chun-ying, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, in the liaison office. 

Luo paid tribute to Leung for his historic contributions to Hong Kong's prosperity and stability, while Leung extended his greetings and congratulations to Luo on the new post. 

Meanwhile, the pair exchanged their views on how to restore the normal order of the society, and how to implement the principle of "One Country, Two Systems".
