In recent years, the Chinese government has continued to strengthen its investment in education in impoverished rural and ethnic minority areas. Since Lanping County, in southwest China's Yunnan Province, adopted administrative means to strictly control the dropout rate of its impoverished population, significant decreases were seen in its compulsory-education dropout rate, particularly between 2017 and 2019.
