Lanping County in southwest China's Yunnan Province has become an example of e-commerce-assisted poverty alleviation in China. The e-commerce service covers 34 impoverished villages and has a coverage rate of 60 percent. The countywide e-commerce trading volume is 160 million yuan (23 million U.S. dollars). The Chinese government sees industrial development as the premise for poverty alleviation, encouraging local businesses to play an active role in industry-assisted poverty alleviation.
