Protests break out as Australian bushfire death toll rises to 28 with one billion animals affected

A firefighter died while on duty on Saturday in Australia's state of Victoria, raising the death toll from this season's devastating bushfires to 28. 

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said on Sunday that his government would consider opening a commission of inquiry into the blazes, amid sustained criticism of his handling of the crisis.

Some 25,000 koalas feared dead, a total of one billion animals could have been affected by the fires according to experts' estimation.
